Carolyn F. Maier, 87, of Parsons, died at 11:08 a.m., Thursday, April 10, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society in Parsons.
She was born January 23, 1921, in Webb City, Missouri, to William O. and Alma (Elder) Ford. She grew up in Parsons where she attended McKinley Elementary School, West Jr. High, was a 1937 graduate of Parsons High School, and earned an Associate degree from Parsons Junior College.
For a time, she worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons. In 1973, she began working in the Admissions Office at Labette Community College and remained there until retirement in 1983.
She and John A. "Jack" Maier were married October 4, 1941, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. He preceded her in death February 19, 1983.
She was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons where she served as Lector, Eucharistic Minister and president of its altar society for two years.
She also served as deanery president of Council of Catholic Women and was on the Board of Directors of Diocesan Council of Catholic Women when it formed in the Wichita Diocese. Because of her long and exceptional service to the Catholic Church, her family and community, she was awarded the Benemerenti Medal by Bishop Mark Carroll. She served as treasurer for the League of Women Voters, was a longtime member of the Coterie Bridge Club where she held various offices, and was a member of the Parsons Country Club Women's Golf Association.
She enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid KU basketball fan. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Roy J. Jarvis; daughter, Judy Smilanic, on August 22, 2005; son-in-law, Bill Smilanic, on November 30, 2000; and a sister and brother-in-law, Nadine and Charlie Scaletty.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 14, 2008, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, April 13, 2008, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends immediately following the Rosary.
