Rural Mound Valley

Carolyn E. McNickle, 79, of rural Mound Valley, passed away at 8:32 a.m., Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at her home following a brief illness.

She was born May 1, 1938 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Leon and Helen Louise (Penfield) McFeely.  She grew up in Oklahoma City until moving with her family to rural Mound Valley at the age of 14.  Carolyn was a 1956 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont.

On September 20, 1958, she and Ronald E. McNickle were married in Coffeyville.  Following marriage, the couple made their home and raised their family in rural Mound Valley.  Throughout her adult life, Carolyn worked at various jobs including the Mound Valley Post Office and the Coffeyville Stockyards.  For the past 36 years, she worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block where she was currently employed.

She was a member of the Center Bethel Church in rural Parsons, a Connection Group at the church, and the Gideons Auxiliary.  Carolyn was an avid quilter.  In earlier years, she was a 4-H quilting leader and enjoyed being involved with the youth in her community.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include:

One Son – Gary McNickle and his wife, Brenda, of Mound Valley, KS

Two Daughters – Wanda McGuire of Mound Valley, KS

Teri Pearce and her husband, Rodney, of Mound Valley, KS

Six Grandchildren – Sara Byrd and her husband, Toby; Josh McGuire, Nick McGuire, Nathan Pearce and his wife, Kyla; Hannah Pearce, and Dillon McNickle

Two Great-Granddaughters – Bethany Byrd and Hilary Byrd

Two Sisters – Nancy Hill of Oklahoma City, OK

Jeanette Hickman of Oklahoma City, OK

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald McNickle, on November 11, 2015; and a son-in-law, Jack McGuire, on September 13, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 29, 2017 at Center Bethel Church with Pastor Keith Jones officiating.  Burial will be at Mound Valley Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at Center Bethel Church.
