Rural Erie

Cecil Dwight Barnhart, 93, of rural Erie, passed away Monday, November 13, 2017 at his home.

He was born September 6, 1924 in rural Erie, Kansas, the son of Harold Magnus and Myrtle Ester (Murdock) Barnhart. As a young boy, he attended Erie schools.

Cecil served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946 during World War II. In May of 1951, he was deployed to Korea while serving in the U.S. Army Reserve.

On February 26, 1947, he married Mary Ann LaSalle in Chanute, Kansas. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2015.

As a young man, Cecil held various jobs and farmed for many years. In November of 1985, he retired from Ruan in Chanute after 20 years of service. Following retirement, he continued to farm.

He was a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Erie, the Teamsters Local #823, and the 930 th Ordnance Ammunition Company.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lou Ella Barlow; and two grandsons, Brad Barnhart and Shane Barnhart.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
