Cecil D. Kimrey

July 26, 1934 — April 28, 2008

Cecil Darrel Kimrey, 73, of Edna, died at 3:25 a.m., Monday, April 28, 2008, at his home. He had been in failing health.

He was born July 26, 1934, in Craig County, Oklahoma to Cecil Ray and Edith Louise (Rexwinkle) Kimrey.

He grew up in Craig County where he attended Plain View Grade School. At the age of 14, he moved to Edna with his mother, brother and sisters. While attending high school there, he worked on the Irvin Rexwinkle Ranch. He was a 1953 graduate of Edna High School.

For a time, he worked for Cole Hatchery and Feed Store in Coffeyville. He served two years in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, from 1957 to 1959. Following his discharge, he worked in Coffeyville at Comet Mobile Homes, Parkersburg Rig and Reel, Magic Circle and retired from Sektam Machine Shop.

For several years he was an active member of the Oswego Fair Board. He served as council member for the City of Edna where he also served as mayor for eight years. He was also a member of the Elm Christian Church where he served as a deacon, Jr. Sunday School superintendent and Jr. Class teacher. He was a member of the Edna Lions Club where he served as President and Secretary, and was a member of the Edna BEARS (Better Edna Area Relief and Support) where he had served as President.

He and Shirley Brown were married July 3, 1955, at the Elm Christian Church. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 3, 2005. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Ray Kimrey; and grandparents, Lee and Lillie Kimrey and Charles and Belle Rexwinkle.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 1, 2008, at the Elm Christian Church, rural Edna. Burial will be in the North Edna Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
