Cecil Ellis Riggs, 91, of Parsons, passed away at 10:50 p.m., Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Labette Health.
He was born January 18, 1925 in McCune, Kansas to Don J. and Gertrude G. (Kohlasch) Riggs. He grew up in McCune where he attended school and graduated from McCune High School. In early adult years, he worked as a meat cutter at Jones Brothers Grocery Store in McCune.
During World War II, he served in the United States Army Air Corps. Upon his honorable discharge, he moved to Parsons where he worked at Ankortite Products, now Dayton Superior, until retiring in 1988 after 45 years of service.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Parsons. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing, and was an avid hunter. Cecil fabricated his own ham radio system which brought him much enjoyment for many years. He also loved photography to the extent that he constructed a darkroom in his home.
In 1947, he and Theora Timson were married in Girard, Kansas. She preceded him in death on November 28, 1992.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis Riggs and Kent Riggs; a great-grandson, Malik Werner; one brother, Donald Earl Riggs; one sister, Fern Litzenberg; and son-in-law, Kenny Werner.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at McCune Cemetery under the direction of the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Friends may call at their convenience from 1-8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at the funeral home.
