Charles Lee "Charlie" Bevins, 98, of Parsons, passed away at 5:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Elm Haven East Nursing Home in Parsons.

He was born May 12, 1920 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Charles W. and Katherine J. (Duensing) Bevins. As a young boy, Charlie grew up on a farm seven miles west of Pittsburg. He attended a one-room schoolhouse.

He proudly served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II in the European Theater of Operations. Upon his honorable discharge, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters.

On June 29, 1941, Charlie and Helen M. Watts were married at the United Methodist Church in Girard. From 1955-1985, he worked as administrative assistant in nursing services at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center. He then worked from 1987-1995 at Southeast Kansas Area on Aging and from 1992-2005 at Labette County Medical Center Lifeline until retiring.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Parsons. He was also a life member of Elks-BPOE Lodge No. 527 where he was honored as Elk of the Year in 1988-89 and 1997-1998 and a life member of Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Parsons.

His loving wife of 77 years - Helen Bevins, of Parsons, KS

One Daughter – Judy Tedstrom of Parsons, KS

Daughter-in-law – Ann Bevins of Joplin, MO

Two Granddaughters – Kim Morrow and her husband, Phillip Morrow, of Tulsa, OK

Tina Slagle and her husband, Bobby Slagle, of Owasso, OK

Eight Great-Grandchildren – Landon Bevins, Kristina Covington, Karmen Nystrom, Allie Slagle, Zoe Slagle, Kaley Slagle, Phillip Morrow, and Garrett Morrow

Six Great-Great-Grandchildren – Ansley, Reagan, Gibson, Asher, Wyatt, and Collins

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Gary Bevins and Brent Bevins; one brother, Lawrence DeGarmo; one sister, Theodosia Smith; and one grandson, Cord Bevins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
