Charles F. "Charlie" Van Mieghem, 75, of Parsons, passed away at 4:56 a.m., Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

He was born August 11, 1942 in Parsons, Kansas to Charles L. and Vera Jean (Bush) Van Mieghem. Charlie grew up in Parsons where he attended school and graduated in 1961 from St. Patrick's High School.

He proudly served in the United States Army Reserve and received an honorable discharge in 1969. Through the years, Charlie worked as an over-the-road truck driver, a mechanic in the diesel shop at the M-K-T Railroad, a mechanic at Parsons Motors, and operated The Tower Bowl which was owned by his parents. Following his retirement, he was a driver for Renzenberger.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons where he served as an usher and was a 3 rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Charlie enjoyed volunteering at the Parsons Senior Center where he served meals. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing, and bowling.

Survivors include:

One Brother – Tony Van Mieghem and his wife, Mittie, of Houston, TX

Three Sisters – Cathy Taylor and her husband, Jerry, of Parsons, KS

Cindy Cramer of Manhattan, KS

Becky Nash and her husband, Tony, of Parsons, KS

Numerous Nieces and Nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant sister, and a brother-in-law, John Cramer.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 28, 2018 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parsons. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Friday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends immediately following the rosary at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick's Catholic Church. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
