Charles V. "Chuck" Shaw, 92, of Carmichael, California, formerly of Galesburg, Kansas, died at 11:55 a.m., Friday, February 13, 2009, at Aegis of Carmichael Assisted Living Facility in Carmichael, California.
He was born January 21, 1917, in Galesburg, Kansas, to Homer Ivan and Maud (Trowbridge) Shaw. During World War II, he was stationed at Fort Ord, California, while serving in the U.S. Army.
Charles and Ruby Arrena Culbertson were united in marriage on December 31, 1941, in Parsons, Kansas. Following their marriage, they lived in rural Neosho County until moving to Salinas, CA in the mid 1940s where he lived until August 2004. At that time, he moved to Aegis of Carmichael Assisted Living Facility in Carmichael, California, where he had lived since.
Through the years, he was employed by Shaw Manufacturing Company and the Katy Railroad, both in southeast Kansas, before working as machine shop foreman at Ideal Cement Company in San Juan Bautista, California, until the mid 50's. At that time, he began working as a machinist at Gabilan Iron and Machine Company, retiring from there in 1982.
Charles was a member of the Methodist Church in Salinas, California. He loved the outdoors, was active in boy scouts, enjoyed woodworking, camping, gardening, model trains, loved to joke, and had a great sense of humor.

One Daughter – Vicki Hallman and husband, Jerry Doerun, GA
One Granddaughter – Ruth Hallman
One Brother – Wendall Shaw Parsons, KS
One Sister – Jean Shaw Kansas City, MO
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Shaw, on September 16, 2004; four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 28, 2009, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, rural Galesburg. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m., Saturday, until service time, at the funeral home.
