Charles Pat "Chuck" Thompson, 72, of Chetopa, passed away at 12:33 p.m., Wednesday, March 8, 2017 in the Emergency Room at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

He was born April 28, 1944 in rural Labette County, Kansas to Charles Wayne and Jean (Gray) Thompson.  He grew up in rural Oswego where he attended Oswego Grade School and was a 1962 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Southeast Kansas.  For a time, he worked at Conard Pecans before working as a heavy equipment operator 35 years for Labette County.  He then worked for KDOT as a heavy equipment operator until retiring.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Chetopa, the Backroom Fellowship, and the Chetopa VFW. Chuck was a past member of the Chetopa Volunteer Fire Department and Chetopa Ambulance Service. He was an avid fan of the Chetopa Green Hornets and Pittsburg State Gorillas.  He loved going to rodeos, breaking horses, playing dominoes and cards, and having fun with friends and family.

He and Shirley Ann Fulkerson were married September 27, 1967 in Vinita, Oklahoma.  She preceded him in death on July 29, 2013.

Survivors include one son, Bill Thompson, of Pittsburg, KS; one daughter, Tammy Hormann, of Edmond, OK; three grandsons, two great-grandchildren, Goddaughter, Shandie Smith, of Parsons, KS; two dinner companions, Mary Ann Prose and Rita Henry; numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved fur baby, Rascal.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Nola Gatton, on August 18, 2016.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the First Christian Church in Chetopa.  Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Monday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.

Memorials are suggested to the Chetopa Volunteer Fire Department or the Backroom Fellowship.  These may be left at or mailed to Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 346, Chetopa, KS 67336.
