Charles D. Gwartney, Sr., of Parsons, passed away at 3:10 p.m., Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.
Charles Dwight Gwartney was born on August 9, 1943, to Elmer and Mattie Marie (Bartlett) Gwartney in Mound Valley, Kansas. As a young boy, he grew up and attended school in Mound Valley and Labette County Community High School.
Most of his life was spent in Labette County. He was a mechanic and heavy equipment operator for Labette County for many years.
He enjoyed music, including playing guitar and singing, and working on vehicles. Going fishing and camping, especially with his family, were also a favorite pastimes.
Charles and Jayne Crumm were united in marriage. The couple later divorced.

Four sons – Charles Gwartney, Jr., and his wife, Rhonda, of Chouteau, Oklahoma
Douglas Ugene Gwartney of Parsons, Kansas
Shane Ray Gwartney of Parsons, Kansas
Matt Martinez of California
Two daughters – Holly Austin of Parsons, Kansas
Ane Marie Gwartney of Parsons, Kansas
Ten grandchildren
Several great-grandchildren
One brother – David Gwartney of Parsons, Kansas
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Gwartney and Clay Edward Gwartney; and two sisters, Betty Morrow and Edith Olson.
Following cremation, burial will take place at Mound Valley Cemetery in a private family service.
