Charles J. Haraughty

May 30, 1934 — March 20, 2022

Chetopa

Charles J. "Joe" Haraughty, Sr., 87, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family the morning of Sunday, March 20, 2022, at his home in Chetopa.

Joe was born on May 30, 1934, to Charles Thomas and Eunice Mae (Cochran) Haraughty in Chetopa, Kansas.  He grew up and attended schools in Chetopa.  At 17, Joe entered United States Air Force and honorably served his country in the Korean and Vietnam wars.

After his military service, Joe returned to the Chetopa area and worked as a journeyman welder for 45 years.

He was a member of Faith Victory Church in Chetopa.  He was also a member of ABATE of Kansas, a biker club.  His biker handle was Horneydog.

God broke the mold with Joe.  If you knew him, you loved him.  He was a motorcycle man, loving everything from building them to riding them, especially Harley's.  Using his talent as a welder, he built his own 3-wheeler a few times, taking it apart and putting it back together until it was perfected.  A talented artist, Joe enjoyed hand-painting tee shirts and doing artwork.  His greatest joy came from spending time with his closest family and friends, talking about the good times.  He loved to tease and sometimes embarrass others, but his laugh and smile were contagious, showing his warmth and keeping those around him smiling.  Having a generous heart, Joe was known to do anything from chopping wood to having a cookout to help out his friends and neighbors.  His most enjoyable pastime was going to biker rallies and being very onery.

On July 18, 1972, Joe and Debora Fay Cupp were united in marriage in Tempe, Arizona.  She survives of the home.

Survivors include:
