Charles L. Kimrey

Charles L. "Charley" Kimrey, 77, of Edna, died at 12:50 p.m., Friday, May 9, 2008 at the Oswego Medical Center in Oswego, Kansas.

He was born August 5, 1930 in Craig County, Oklahoma to Cecil Ray and Edith Louise (Rexwinkle) Kimrey. He grew up in Craig County and then attended the Edna High school and later the Coffeyville Junior College.

He was married to Beverly A. Stine on December 21, 1952 at Edna, Kansas. She survives of the home. Following their marriage, they lived for three years in Bossier City, Louisiana, until moving back to Edna where they have lived since. He worked, for a time, at the former Stine Hardware. He worked for Funk Manufacturing for 28 years as a machinist until he retired. He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956.

He loved softball, gardening and fishing. He also coached girls softball teams for almost 40 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Edna, the Edna Lodge #345 AF&AM, the former Edna Lions Club and the Edna Bears. He was also active in the Edna Recreation Association.

Survivors include: His wife: Beverly - of the home; One Son: Les and his wife, Janice, Edna, Kansas; Two Daughters: Vickie and her husband, Ted Lear, Edna, Kansas; Beth and her husband, Bob McGinley, Oklahoma City, OK; Seven Grandchildren: Sherrie and husband, Jeremy Horton; Shannon and husband, Jeremy Hoose; Tracy and husband, Shawn Alloway; Travis and wife, Tammy Kimrey; Shianne and husband Ryan Hoppock; Cody Lear and Jennifer Isaacs. Four Great-grandchildren: Jacob and Carter Horton; Caleb Pierce; Charli Renae Alloway. Three sisters: Betty Johnston and husband, Jim, Edna, Kansas; Jessie Foister and husband, Howard, Edna, Kansas; Karen Adolph and husband Fred, Edna, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother. His mother, Edith Vaughn, passed away Sunday evening, May 11, 2008, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the Bartlett Christian Church. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery in Edna. The family will receive friends at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont from 7 to 8 p.m., Monday.
