Charles E. Manley

Charles E. Manley, 82, of rural Edna, died at 4:12 a.m., Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Chetopa Manor Nursing Home. He was born December 5, 1931 in Cedarvale, Kansas to Clarence Edward and Letha Rose (Davis) Manley. He grew up and attended school near Sedan and was a 1949 graduate of Sedan High School. He then attended Coffeyville Jr. College where he earned an Associate degree. Charles served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Edna where he had lived since. For over 20 years, he worked as a machinist at Parkersburg Machine Shop in Coffeyville. He also was a board member for the City of Edna Water Department where he served as superintendent for numerous years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Edna. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1022 in Coffeyville and the American Legion Post No. 20. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and raising cattle. He and Connie Tritthart were married on March 25, 1966 in Edna. She survives of the home. In addition to his wife, survivors include: Two Sons – Chris Manley and his wife, Cindy Rural Edna, KS Jayson Manley and his wife, Kelly Rural Labette City, KS One Daughter – Teresa Craddock and her husband, Mark Artesia, NM Eight Grandchildren Ten Great-Grandchildren Two Brothers – Ben Manley Grove, OK Jim Manley Rural Edna, KS One Sister – Anna Mae Van Dyne Edna, KS He was preceded in death by one sister and one step-grandson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Edna. Burial will be in Edna Elm Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the church. Memorials are suggested to the National Parkinson's Foundation.
