Charles W. "Chuck" Newkirk, Jr., 65, of Oronogo, Missouri, formerly of Parsons, died at 1:47 a.m., Sunday, April 20, 2008, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin.
He was born July 8, 1942, in Parsons, Kansas, to Charles W. Newkirk, Sr. and Florence Ellen (Merritt) Newkirk. He grew up in Parsons where he attended North Harmony School and West Jr. High School. He later attended Labette County Community High School in Altamont and MIT in Kansas City.
Through the years, he and his father owned and operated a vending machine business in Parsons; and later, he operated a trucking business there. After moving to Branson, Missouri, he operated a sporting goods store. In 1989, he moved to the Joplin area where he owned and operated a vending machine business.
He and Cheryl Houser were married. They were later divorced. He and Dianne Black were married. They were later divorced. He and Patti Gannaway were married December 14, 1984, in Kansas City, Missouri. She survives of the home.
He enjoyed traveling, reading, boating, history and animals. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was proud of his heritage and was a member of the Citizen Band Pottawatomie Indian Tribe.
He was baptized at St. John's Episcopal Church, in Parsons, and attended the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Webb City, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Newkirk, in 1989; and a stepdaughter, Julie West, in 1990.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 24, 2008, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
