Clara Belle Scott, 101, of Parsons, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Presbyterian Manor, Parsons.

She was born February 12, 1923, at Vinita, Oklahoma. The daughter of Mark A. and Donnie (Stillwell) Malone. At the age of 3 she moved to Parsons with her family and has resided here since, with the exception of four years in Kansas City immediately following World War II.

She graduated from Parsons High School in 1940 and from Parsons Junior College in 1942. She began work at Broderick Manufacturing Co. in the summers during high school and continued there following the birth of her children. From 1951 until 1972, she served as Floor Supervisor where she taught many young women the use of power sewing machines. Later, she worked as secretary to the Guidance Counselors at Parsons Middle School and following the death of her husband, she began work in the office at Class LTD retiring from there at the end of 2004.

On September 5, 1942, she married James D. Scott. The marriage lasted 58 years, ending with his death in 2000. To this union two children were born; a daughter, Anita Kay, and a son, James, Jr. Clara became a follower of Christ and was baptized at Friendship Southern Baptist Church in October 1951 and has faithfully served the Lord for over 70 years. She taught Sunday school for many years, served as church clerk, as church treasurer, and in many other capacities. Upon the closing of Friendship Church, she became a member of the Parsons Church of the Nazarene and has continued to serve there in any way that her health would allow.

She is survived by one granddaughter, Andrea (Scott) Brigstock and husband, Jon, of Miami, Oklahoma; a granddaughter-in-law, Sarah Scott, of Pittsburg, Kansas; a step grandson, Patrick Christian, of Roanoke, Virginia; two adoptive grandsons; Perry A. Myers of Emporia, Kansas, and Derwin D. Myers of Carriere, Mississippi; 10 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, James Scott, in 2000; her son, James Scott, Jr. in 2004; her daughter, Anita K. Scott, in 2007; grandson, Dustin Scott, in 2007; adoptive grandson, Kim Myers, in 2011; and her brother, Tom Malone.

Cremation is under the direction of Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, Parsons. A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Remnant Nazarene Church, Parsons, KS.
