Colt A. Smith, 48, of Parsons, passed away at 7:45 p.m., Thursday, August 27, 2020, at Labette Health Emergency Room.
Colt Alan Smith was born on November 4, 1971, to Gary Smith and Jolene (Westhoff) Smith in Midwest City, Oklahoma. As a young boy, he moved to Miami, Oklahoma and then Parsons, where he attended St. Patrick Catholic School and graduated from Parsons High School in 1990.
He worked at Rooster Thriftway, Jock's Nitch and KLKC. As an adult, Colt returned to school and earned an Associate of Arts degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant. Most recently, he was working as a physical therapy assistant for Aegis Therapies. He provided physical therapy to the residents at Presbyterian Manor, Elm Haven and Chetopa Manor nursing homes.
Known for always having a smile on his face and an upbeat attitude, Colt loved his family. His greatest joy came from watching his son play ball and was at every game. He was a mentor and role model for his nephew and Godson, Tate Smith. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan, and enjoyed fishing, boating and spending time at Grand Lake.
Colt and Brenda (Yarnell) Volmer were married on May 10, 1997 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. They later divorced.

Son – Tristian Smith of Pittsburg, Kansas
Step-son – Levi Volmer of Parsons, Kansas
Step-daughter – Tara Thompson and her husband, Tyler, of Mound Valley, Kansas
Three step-grandchildren
Mother – Jolene Smith of Parsons, Kansas
Sister – Penny Smith of Parsons, Kansas
Father and step-mother – Gary and Gaylene Smith of Wyandotte, Oklahoma
Half-brother - Caleb Smith and his wife, Whitney, of Miami, Oklahoma
His companion - Katie Rakestraw of Parsons, Kansas
Several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Pam McKay.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 10, 2020, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home. Private family burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday to sign the guest book. The casket will remain closed. The funeral can be viewed live on the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home Facebook page. For all events, wearing masks and social distancing guidelines will be followed.
