Dale B. Crooks, 89, a lifelong resident of Parsons, died at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 1, 2006, at the Labette County Medical Center in Parsons following a brief illness.

He was born September 6, 1916 in rural Parsons to Leonidas Morton and Deborah Mary (Fesmire) Crooks. He grew up and attended schools in Parsons graduating from Parsons High School and Parsons Junior College. For a time, he worked at Rust Hardware. He then worked as a fireman at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant from 1948 until retiring. He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II while he was stationed in England, Africa and Italy. He also served as a crew chief on a P38 Fighter Squadron during that time.

He married Marie Hawkinson in 1946. She died in January 1976. He married Merle Lewis in 1978. She preceded him in death on July 5, 2004.

His hobbies included woodworking, fishing and traveling. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Parsons, P.A.W.S., Parsons Masonic Lodge No. 117, A.F. & A.M., and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars having received his 55 year pin.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 5, 2006 at the First Christian Church in Parsons with Masonic Rites given by the Parsons Masonic Lodge No. 117, A.F. & A.M. Burial will be in the Swedish Cemetery in Savonburg with military honors given by Brown-Bishop Post No. 704 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will receive friends Friday, August 4, 2006 from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.

Memorials may be made to the LCC Foundation or the Mary Callstrom Scholarship Fund at the First Christian Church in Parsons. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O.
