Rural Coffeyville

Dale L. Johnston, 78, a lifelong farmer and machinist, of rural Coffeyville, passed away at 2:22 a.m., Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. His death was unexpected. He was born on August 28, 1937 in rural Bartlett, Kansas, the youngest of four sons born to Vernon and Myrtle (Layton) Johnston. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from the Labette County Community High School at Altamont in 1955. Dale was united in marriage to Marlyn Kay Baird on January 22, 1956. After living in Wichita, Kansas during their first year of marriage, they moved to Chetopa before moving to their home northeast of Coffeyville, Kansas, where they lived most of their married life. Together they raised their family, farmed, and raised livestock in the rural Coffeyville area. Dale also supplemented the family income over the years by working as a machinist with jobs at the Boeing Aircraft Company (Wichita), Wheatly Valve (Caney), Parmac (Coffeyville) and later on at SEKTAM Tool (Coffeyville) in Quality Control. Working with livestock was a lifelong joy for Dale. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting coyotes with his greyhounds. He especially enjoyed bird hunting with his pointer named Pal. Dale was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Dale often helped his children and could be found helping with the family garden and yard. Family was very important to Dale. He loved attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's events whether sports, theatrics, 4-H or FFA, or anything else they were involved in. He was very proud that he was able to hunt and fish with many of his grandchildren and to teach several how to drive. Survivors include: His Wife: Marlyn K.
