Dalton L. Newberry, 76, of rural St. Paul, passed away at 2:36 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at his home.

Dalton Lee Newberry was born on August 30, 1943, to Emerson and Hazel (Culbertson) Newberry in Erie, Kansas. As a young boy, he grew up in the St. Paul area and attended Bloomer Country School.

A life-long farmer in the St. Paul area, Dalton also served in the National Guard from 1964 to 1971. Then for eight years, he worked for Bush Hog Manufacturing in Galesburg. He later worked for Kansas Wildlife and Parks until his retirement in 1991. He continued farming after his retirement.

His greatest joy came from spending time with his family. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

On December 24, 1964, Dalton and Shirley J. Cook were married at the Erie Federated Church in Erie. She survives of the home.

Chad Newberry and his wife, Kim, of St. Paul

Six grandchildren – Tressa Beezley and her husband, Zach; Josh Newberry; Garrett Newberry; Kayla Treiber and her husband, Dylan; Carly O'Brien and her husband, Jason; and Clay Newberry

Five great-grandchildren – Briggs and Breckyn Beezley; Cassie and Payton Treiber; and Owen O'Brien

Two sisters – Darlene Jeffrey and her husband, Dale, of Erie

Bernie Johnston and her husband, Jeff, of Bartlett

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Calvin Newberry; two sisters, Carolyn Baker and infant Gloria Newberry.

There will be a graveside service at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 2, 2020, at South Mound Cemetery. Friends may sign the register and view Mr. Newberry 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 1, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.

Memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357
