DAN E. DEMERSSEMAN, 53, of Parsons, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016 at his home.
Dan was born February 14, 1962 in Lawrence, Kansas the son of Robert E. and Dollie Jean (Sawyer) DeMersseman. He attended Vinland Grade School and graduated from Baldwin High School in 1980. Dan attended Kansas University and Independence Community College where he received his Paramedic Certification.
He moved to Parsons, Kansas in 1984. Dan worked for Labette County EMS Service as a Paramedic, MICT, for twenty-two years. He helped on the Labette County Dive Team and taught First Responders classes in the Parsons area. Dan volunteered as a rodeo clown at the Sunbelt Rodeo for adults and children with special needs in Parsons for thirty-one years. He enjoyed woodworking, working on the family farm, and spending time with family and friends. Dan was a great dog lover.
He is survived by his mother, Jean Moore, of Baldwin, KS; his close friend, Mary Lou Strong and her son, Lance Taylor, both of Lawrence, KS; Daughter of his heart, Whitney Harper, and her son, Jayden Crader, of Topeka, KS; his sisters, Jeralyn Lewis of Lawrence, KS, Lorretta Zachary and husband, Wayne, of Lawrence, KS, Joyce Day of Corinth, KY, and Denise DeMersseman-Smith and husband, Richard, of Simonton, TX; his brothers, John Moore and wife, Marcy, of Douglass, KS and Randy DeMersseman and wife, Donita Jo, of Baldwin, KS. He was a favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. DeMersseman; his second dad, Gerald Moore; a brother, Robert E. DeMersseman Jr.; a sister, Julie Nichols; three nephews, Rob Reusch, Patrick Zachary, and Nicholas Dale Moore; and two uncles, Howard Sawyer and Donald Sawyer.
To celebrate Dan's life, a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends at noon until service time, on Friday, at the funeral home.
