Dana R. Brown, 60, of Parsons and formerly of Mound Valley, passed away the evening of Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Parsons Presbyterian Manor surrounded by her family.
Dana Ruby Brown was born on June 8, 1964, to John L. and Darlene L. (Conrad) Brown in Independence, Kansas. Dana's academic journey began at Mound Valley Grade School and culminated in her graduation from Labette County High School in 1983.
Following high school, Dana moved to Topeka, where she devoted part of her career to the Kansas School for the Blind Warehouse, until it closed in 1990. Subsequently, Dana joined Walmart in Topeka, where she served diligently for 25 years before moving back to Mound Valley in 2015. In 2021, Dana joined the SER program and became an employee in training at the SKIL office in Parsons, until she had to quit due to her failing health in May.
Beyond her professional life, Dana had a profound love for reading her braille books, interacting with her pet birds and never missing a Kansas City Chiefs game. Dana was known for her sweet and loving nature, always ready to greet everyone with open arms and a bright smile. A passionate fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, her enthusiasm for the team was contagious among her friends and family.

One brother – Kirk Brown (Vicky) of Parsons, Kansas
One sister – Johnia M. Franklin of Altamont, Kansas
One nephew - Cody Brown of Altamont, Kansas
Three nieces – Haley Brown of Cherryvale, Kansas; Cynthia Kinser (Armond) of Edna, Kansas; and Julia Ames (Tim) of Altamont, Kansas
Three great-nephews – Cole Brown, Talan Bentley, and Shane Smith
Four great-nieces – Delaney Brown, Virginia Kinser, Ember Kinser, and Luna Ames
She was preceded in death by her father, John Brown in 2011; and nephew, Johnathan Smith in 2021.
The graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Mound Valley Cemetery in Mound Valley. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
