Daniel Taylor Little, Jr. age 92, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Garden Terrace Nursing Home in Overland Park, Kansas.
Dan, the youngest of ten children, was born on January 27, 1923 in Clever, Missouri, to Daniel Taylor and Maude Rosella (Laney) Little. He graduated from Clever High School where he participated in basketball, track, and baseball. He also played several musical instruments. After graduation Dan moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he married his high school sweetheart, Mildred Teague, on Feb. 1, 1942. They had been married for 72 years when Mildred passed away on May 3, 2014.
Dan was drafted into the military and served in the European theater (Battle of the Bulge) during World War II from 1943-1946. After the war he worked in various capacities and for many different companies before retiring from Bendix in Kansas City where he worked on the space vehicles. He and Mildred bought a small cottage on Lake Lotawana, MO. It was their dream home and they loved having family and friends to enjoy boating and fishing. They later moved to Springfield, MO to be close to family and eventually moved to Parsons, KS in 2005 to be near their daughters.
Dan was a sports fan and loved nothing more than watching his children and grandchildren participate in all their sporting activities. He loved to golf, take his grandkids waterskiing, and most of all spending his later years with his beloved wife. Wahoo and cards were always played when family was present.
Dan is survived by his three children; daughters Joyce (Larry) Burnett, Linda (Jim) Nichols of Parsons, KS, son Jerry (Jane) Little Of Indianapolis, IN; eight grandsons, Mike Burnett, Bob Burnett, Dan Burnett, and Steve Nichols all of Kansas City, John Nichols, Springdale AR, Bobby Nichols, Lawrence, KS, Jason and Seth Little of Indianapolis, IN. Dan has 15 great grandchildren; Ben, Joey, Emma Kate, Bryan, Seth, Carl, and Marla of Kansas City; Jackson, Olivia, and Hannah of Springdale, AR; Tess and Maeve of Lawrence, KS: Jerry, Cole, and Alexsandra of Indianapolis, IN. He is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 7, 2015 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons, KS. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m., on Thursday, until service time at the funeral home. Committal services with military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood Road, Springfield, MO.
