Daniel R. Veenstra, Sr., 85, a longtime Mound Valley resident, passed away at 8:40 a.m., Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Parsons.
He was born January 28, 1932 in Lansing, Illinois to Herman and Rosalee (Badger) Veenstra. As a young boy, he grew up and attended schools in Chicago and Florida.
Through the years, he worked as an over-the-road truck driver delivering from farmers to the Campbell Soup Company in the Chicago area. In 1972, he moved to Florida where he worked for an underground telephone cable company and later worked in maintenance at a trailer park in Tampa, Florida.
He enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Joe Veenstra and his wife, Alberta Mound Valley, KS
Robert Veenstra and his companion, Vicki Kern Mound Valley, KS
Craig Veenstra and his wife, Shelly Wichita, KS
Nineteen Grandchildren
Thirty-Five Great-Grandchildren
Two Great-Great-Granddaughters
One Sister – Katherine Schriefels Inverness, FL
He was preceded in death by two sons, Del Veenstra and Herman Veenstra; and one brother, Herman Veenstra.
Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Monday, July 17, 2017 in Fellowship Hall at the First Baptist Church in Mound Valley. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Services are under the direction of the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
