Darlene B. Hellwig, 91, of Oswego, passed away at 10:46 a.m., Wednesday, September 12, 2018 in the Emergency Room at Labette Health in Parsons.
She was born February 16, 1927 in Hollow, Oklahoma to John W. and Rosa J. (Baunhofer) Miller. As a young girl, she moved with her family to rural Chetopa. Darlene was a 1946 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont. Prior to marriage, Darlene worked as a school teacher.
On May 3, 1947 she and Phillip John "P.J." Hellwig, Jr. were married. Following marriage, the couple farmed in the rural Oswego area for many years. In 1994, they retired from farming and moved into Chetopa. He preceded her in death on November 13, 1998. In 2014, she moved to her current home in Oswego.
She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Oswego. She was also a member of the 101 Homemakers Club. Darlene enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and china painting.

Rex Hellwig (Becky) of Oswego, KS
Joe Hellwig (Deby) of Opolis, KS
Six Grandchildren – Tracey Elder, Matt Hellwig (Lindsie), Ryan Hellwig (Jenny), Michelle Bard (Aaron), Emilie Lallemand (Brandon), and Derek Hellwig

Brother-in-law – Leon Pearce of rural Oswego, KS
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Gary Hellwig; three brothers, and two sisters.
Private burial services will be held by the family at Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Chetopa. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 15, 2018 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Oswego. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. Friends may call at their convenience from 1-8:00 p.m., Friday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
