Darold Coomes, 82, of St. Paul, passed away at 7:15 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.
He was born October 19, 1934 in rural St. Paul, Kansas to Adrian J. and Bertha "Midge" (Standley) Coomes. In 1952, he graduated from St. Francis High School and worked for Mose Johnson Elevator, South Mound, Kansas, and for Casey O'Bryan following high school. Darold also worked for Ebasco Company during the construction of Service Valley Electric Plant.
On January 23, 1954, Darold and Mary Jane LaForge were married at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Greenbush, Kansas. In 1955, they moved to Plymouth, Michigan where Darold worked for Foreman Brothers trucking mail between Willow Run Airport and Detroit until 1959 when they returned to Kansas and he began working for Paul LaForge and later LaForge & Budd Construction Company as a superintendent retiring in 1996.
In 1969, Darold and son, Larry, built the family home in St. Paul. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. His hobbies included trout fishing at Roaring River State Park, flathead fishing in the Neosho River, and pond fishing. He was also an avid deer hunter, turkey caller and hunter, woodworker, and gardener.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth Coomes.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 31, 2016 at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., Friday, at the church. The family will receive friends immediately following the rosary at the church.
