Darrell E. Stringer, 83, of rural Parsons, died Thursday, February 1, 2007, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.
He was born November 22, 1923, in Parsons to Wallace and Velma (Pond) Stringer. He grew up and attended schools in Parsons graduating from Parsons High School in 1941. Following graduation, he worked at the MKT Railroad prior to serving in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946 as a deep sea diver in the Salvage Repair Unit. Upon his discharge, he returned to Parsons and resumed his employment at the MKT Railroad. He retired from the railroad in 1983 having served 42 years.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church where he had served as deacon for 15 years, the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees and Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed woodworking and cherished spending time with his family.
On June 17, 1948, he and Beva C. Waller were married in Bentonville, Arkansas. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one great-granddaughter, Amara Grace Stringer.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m., Saturday, February 3, 2007, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2007, at the funeral home.
