Daryl J. Lorenz, 83, formerly of Altamont, died at 4:15 a.m., Monday, June 15, 2009, at Parsons Presbyterian Manor where he had resided since December 2007.

He was born November 2, 1925, in Okeene, Oklahoma, to Harry and Freda (Weber) Lorenz. After graduating from Loyal High School in Loyal, Oklahoma, he served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946. Following his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Loyal, and for a time, worked at J.C. Penney in Kingfisher, Oklahoma.

He and Mickey V. Garner were married September 18, 1948, in Loyal, Oklahoma. They then moved to Altamont, Kansas, where he farmed and also worked as a plumber and electrician. Daryl then served as postmaster in Altamont for 17 years before retiring from the postal service due to health.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altamont and Altamont Lodge No. 69, A.F. & A.M. In earlier years, Daryl enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Six Great-Grandchildren – Carl, Matt and Dalton Lorenz
Jamie, Josie and Julia Pemberton
One Brother – Lesley Lorenz Parsons, KS
Numerous Nieces and Nephews

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frankie and Wesley Lorenz.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 19, 2009, at the First Baptist Church in Altamont. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with military honors given by Brown-Bishop Post No. 704 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call after 9:00 a.m., Thursday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
