David Earl Dresher, Jr.

April 5, 1925 — September 7, 2010

David E. Dresher, Jr., 85, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, formerly of Chetopa, Kansas, died at 12:00 noon, Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at MeadowBrook Specialty Hospital in Tulsa.

He was born April 5, 1925, in Chetopa, Kansas, to David Earl and Mamie Iris (Robertson) Dresher. He grew up in Chetopa where he attended schools and graduated from Chetopa High School.

He served in the United States Navy during both World War II and the Korean War. Following his discharge from the Navy, he lived in Oregon where he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic. He then moved to California where he owned and operated a Chevron service station and in 1972 returned to Chetopa where he owned and operated D&M Hardware. He later worked for the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier in Chetopa and Welch, Oklahoma, prior to his retirement. In 2005, following the death of his wife, he moved to Tulsa to be near family.

He enjoyed golf, reading, repairing things, dancing, playing the piano and sports, especially football. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He and Ellen Marie Smith were married April 7, 1946, in Chetopa, Kansas. She preceded him in death December 20, 2005.

Survivors include:
Two Daughters – Joyce Dresher-Crosby Broken Arrow, OK
Rhonda Dresher Tulsa, OK
Two Grandchildren – Jayme Crosby Norman, OK
Michael Crosby Tahlequah, OK

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

Following cremation, graveside committal services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 11, 2010, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa.
