David R. Holsinger

David R. Holsinger, 66, of Parsons, died at 1:45 p.m., Monday, July 11, 2011, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center at Via Christi St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

He was born July 10, 1945, in Cortez, Colorado to Elmer and Dowanna (Ewing) Holsinger. As a young boy, he moved with his family where he graduated from Parsons High School and attended Labette Community College.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge, he lived in Tulsa and Coffeyville before returning to Parsons. He worked as an engineer for the M-K-T Railroad for 25 years and later at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center in Parsons as an aide until retirement.

He was a member of the Assembly of God Church and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He enjoyed woodworking, sketching and spending time with his family.

He and Elke Merrick were married March 18, 1995 in Altamont. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Randy Holsinger in 2002; one granddaughter; and mother-in-law, Susan Merrick, in 2007.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 16, 2011, at the Assembly of God Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Friday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
