David L. Westhoff

Rural Walnut

David L. Westhoff, 95, of rural Walnut, passed away at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.

David Lewis Westhoff was born on February 21, 1926, to Philip Lewis and Rose Ann (Schulz) Westhoff in rural Walnut.  Growing up on the family farm, he attended Lone Elm Grade School in rural St. Paul and graduated from St. Francis High School in St. Paul in 1942.

He honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

On March 3, 1962, David and Ruby A. Bergmann were united in marriage at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul.  The couple established a home in rural Walnut, where David farmed and raised cattle throughout his life.

He had been a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Walnut for many years and in recent years was a member of St Ambrose Catholic Church in Erie.  He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.  In earlier years, David was a member of the American Legion in Walnut.

His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family.  He also enjoyed playing baseball.

Five daughters – Anna Goble (David) of Girard, Kansas

Eileen Bland (Rick) of Girard, Kansas

Connie Westhoff (Joe) of Olathe, Kansas

Donna Rodriguez (Ernesto) of Lenexa, Kansas

Diana Ericson (Jeff) of Forest, Wisconsin

Fourteen grandchildren - Ben Goble (Mindy); Chris Goble (Kari); Sara Goble; Kathy Bland; Emily Stonerock (Aaron); Bridgette Johnston (Tyler); Teresa Westhoff; Michael Westhoff (Anna); Ernie Rodriguez (Leslie); Amanda Fulks (Phillip); Nicolas Rodriguez; Olivia Rodriguez; Monica Rodriguez; and Patrick Rodriguez

Five great-grandchildren – Alex Goble, Reese Rodriguez, Anastasia Fulks, Emmett Fulks, and Evelyn Westhoff

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ernest Westhoff; six sisters, Gertrude McFarland, Cecilia McFarland, Regina Bradshaw, Margaret Bruchez, Elizabeth Westhoff, and Dorothy Strasser.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 13, 2021, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Erie.  Burial will immediately follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Walnut.  The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church.  The family will receive friends following the rosary.
