Delda L. Smith, 100, of Oswego, passed away the morning of Friday, March 31, 2023, at Oswego Health and Rehab.
Delda Lorene Campbell was born on January 28, 1923, to William Thomas "Bill" and Nellie Jane (Alexander) Campbell in Cherokee County, Kansas. As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in rural Oswego.
Over the years, Delda worked at various jobs, including being a painter at Chatkam & Chimes Pottery Company.
She was a long-time member of the Community Bible Church in Chetopa.
A talented painter, Delda enjoyed doing crafts and making quilts.
On July 31, 1938, Delda and Franklin James Smith were united in marriage. He preceded her in death on April 22, 1982. On October 26, 1984, Delda and Homer R. Smith were married. He preceded her in death on November 8, 2009.
Survivors include:
Two sons – Jerry Smith (Paula) of Oswego, Kansas
Nathan Smith (Catherine) of Oswego, Kansas
One daughter – Judy Stetz (Paul) of Sedan, Kansas
Five grandchildren
Eleven great-grandchildren
One great-great-grandson
Five step-grandchildren
Four step-great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Smith; and her husband, Homer Smith; one infant daughter, Suzanne Smith; one grandson, Anthony Stetz; one great-granddaughter, Isabella Gudde; three brothers; and two sisters.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the Community Bible Church in Chetopa. Burial will follow at the Oswego Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
