Delores Carrie O'Brien was born on June 18, 1945, to Clinton and Clyta Grace (Allen) Burmood in Kearney, Nebraska. Many times, Delores glorified and shared her love for God by telling the story of how Jesus saved her life on the day her foot was severely broken and severed from her left leg. She would also share the story about June 3, 1980, when Jesus saved the family from tornados that destroyed her home at 608 East Sunset in Grand Island.
