Deloris M. "Pokey" Long, 73, of Altamont, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at her home.
She was born December 26, 1942 in Parsons, Kansas to William Ellsworth and Gladys Lucille (Osterhout) Cowart. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Arkansas where they lived until moving to Altamont in 1953. She was a 1961 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont.
On July 6, 1962, she and Thomas H. "T.H." Long, Jr. were married at the First Baptist Church in Altamont. For several years, Pokey worked as an administrative assistant at Labette County High School in Altamont.
She was baptized into the Baptist church while living in Arkansas and in the past had attended the First Baptist Church in Altamont. She was a former member of the Altamont Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Pokey enjoyed reading, listening to police scanners, bowling, and playing cards. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Four Grandchildren – Renee Cosby and her fiancé, Alberto Salazar; Jordan Cosby, Samantha Maritt and her husband, Zach; and Tristan Gegg
One Great-Grandchild – Brantley Maritt and one "on the way"
One Brother – James Cowart Altamont, KS
Two Sisters – Jean Clemons Altamont, KS
Flossie Lantz and her husband, Stan Caney, KS
Numerous Nieces and Nephews
Two Former Sons-in-law – David Cosby Mound Valley, KS
Scott Gegg Altamont, KS
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. "T.H." Long, Jr. on November 18, 2006.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall at the Altamont United Methodist Church.
