Dixie "Ducky" Wetherell

Dixie "Ducky" Wetherell, 70, of Columbus, and formerly of Parsons, passed away at 8:48 a.m., Sunday, December 25, 2016 at her sister's home in Columbus.

She was born November 27, 1946 in Columbus, Kansas to Edward William and Jewel Alene (Johnson) Boggs. She grew up and attended school in Columbus and was a 1964 graduate of Columbus High School. She later attended Coffeyville Community College.

She and Larry Lee Wetherell were married September 9, 1967 in Columbus. Following marriage, they lived in Parsons where she was employed at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant where she worked as an executive assistant. After working at the KAAP, she was employed by the Parsons Recreation Center from 2002 until her retirement in 2011.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Parsons and a former member of The Order of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. For many years, she also served as secretary for the Parsons Babe Ruth League.

She had a love for water, was a great water skier, and began lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons as a teenager. "Ducky" was a talented toll painter. She loved making homemade gifts, whether it was a painting, a knitted blanket, or baking a batch of homemade cookies. She loved music and was an accomplished pianist. She also loved to travel. "Ducky" was an avid baseball fan; her passion being for the New York Yankees. She loved her family and friends and especially enjoyed spending quality time with each of them.

Survivors include:
Two Sons – Alan J. Wetherell Parsons, KS
Steve L. Shell and his wife, Vicki Carson City, NV
One Daughter – Susan L. Wilson Parsons, KS
Five Grandchildren – Allison Shell, Kimberly Shell, Hunter Wilson, Hayden Wetherell and Jaxsyn Wetherell
Three Great-Grandchildren – Gunner, Hailey and Holly Sullivan
One Sister – Diane Yurk and her husband, Gary Columbus, KS
Numerous Nieces and Nephews

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Wetherell, on November 19, 2003, and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 30, 2016 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Graveside committal services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, at Park Cemetery in Columbus. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Parsons Babe Ruth League or the Sherwin Christian Church. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
