Don Smith

Chetopa

Eddie D. "Don" Smith, 79, of Chetopa, ascended with the Angels to Heaven to be with Jesus on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at 9:20 p.m.,surrounded by his family.  He was born July 19, 1942, to Willie and Faye Smith in Oswego, Kansas.  He lived in Labette County his entire life.  In 1960, he graduated from Oswego High School.

His first job was delivering newspapers.  He was in the Navy Reserves before going active in August 1962 to July 1964, serving as Quartermaster.  After his military duty, he worked over 40 years as a construction job superintendent over multi-million dollar job sites in the 4-state area.  He retired in May 2019 from Midwest Minerals.

He was raised of Pentecostal faith.

He married his wife, Karen, in August 1969.  She survives of the home.

Also surviving are two daughters, Linda Miller; and Krystal Adams and her husband, Myles, of Chetopa, Kansas; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Smith of Bristow, Oklahoma; Grandchildren, Rachel McDowell (Mikel) of Adair, Oklahoma; Daniel Cory Smith of Bristow, Oklahoma; Kayla Underwood of Parsons, Kansas; Bryar Underwood and Nichole Adams of Chetopa, Kansas; Adrienne Adams of San Antonio, Texas; Brett Adams (Christa) of Brooklyn, Wisconsin; George Miller (Amanda) of Afton, Oklahoma; Hank Miller (Callie) of Grove, Oklahoma;  Great-grandchildren, Kaegan and Aedyn McDowell; Dakota Lee; Aspen, Harley, and Aubree Miller; MaKenzie and Jaxson Miller; Turner Shaw; Giselle Ramos; Milena, Coraline, and Greyson Flores; and one on the way.

He is also survived by one brother, Rennie Smith (Glenda) and family and many other relatives.  Preceding him in death is one son, AW1 Daniel W. Smith, U.S. Navy; his parents; one sister; and two great-granddaughters.

At his request, his body is being cremated.  A Celebration of Life for the family will be held at a later date.

Memorials in Don's memory are to the charity of the donor's choice.  These may be left at or mailed to Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Chetopa, P.O. Box 346, Chetopa, KS  67336.
