Don Wood

Don Wood, 70, of St. Paul, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014 at his home.

He was born May 8, 1944 in Parsons, Kansas to Walter Scott and Mary Mae (Heck) Wood. He grew up and attended school in St. Paul and was a 1962 graduate of St. Francis High School. He then attended Parsons Jr. College before serving in the United States Air Force. For over thirty years, he was employed at Power Flame in Parsons until retiring.

He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. He was also a member of the St. Paul Saddle Club and the American Legion in earlier years. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. He also enjoyed horses.

He and Frances Fox were married. They later divorced. In 1970, he and Nancy Hunt were married. They later divorced.

Survivors include two sons, Darren Doherty and his wife, Leanna, Farlington, KS and Jeff Wood, St. Paul, KS; two daughters, Jeri Heitman and husband, Chris, Walnut, KS and Brandi Irish, St. Paul, KS; fourteen grandchildren, Brett Giefer and wife, Kayla, Pittsburg, KS, Brandon Giefer and fiancée, Kristen Colyer, Kansas City, MO, Breah Schibi and husband, Jeff, Parsons, KS, Trenton Wood, Lawrence, KS, Ethan, Carter and Abi Doherty, Farlington, KS, Garrett Newberry, Farlington, KS, Takoda Leach and Braxton Irish of St. Paul, KS, Niki Michael and husband, Phillip, St. Paul, KS, Kerri Heitman, Walnut, KS, Tressa Beezley and husband, Zach, Girard, KS, and Josh Newberry, Kansas City, MO; six great-grandchildren, Michael Giefer, Lila and Lathan Michael, Preston Heitman and Briggs Beezley; one sister, Mary Shrum and husband, Gary, Monett, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Chuck Wood.

Following cremation, a memorial funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 16, 2014 at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, at the church. The family will receive friends immediately following the rosary in Parish Hall.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul Alumni Association to be used for a scholarship at St. Paul High School. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
