Donald E. "Donnie" Carter, 71, of St. Paul, died at 11:25 a.m., Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Labette Health in Parsons, Kansas.
He was born December 2, 1939, on the Big Island, in St. Paul, to Raymond A. and Agnes (Thielan) Carter. He was a 1957 graduate of St. Francis High School in St. Paul.
He served in the United States Army and, upon his honorable discharge, returned home as a fifth generation farmer of the Big Island, south of St. Paul, until his retirement in 2002.
Donnie was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and the St. Paul Saddle Club. He served on the St. Paul Mission Day Committee for many years, organizing the horse and pony pulls, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. He was also a proud supporter of the St. Paul Indian sports teams and had been awarded "Fan of the Year" by the St. Paul Indian Booster Club.
He married Sharon Hazen in July of 1963. They later divorced.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at the St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul with Fr. Thomas Leland officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. The rosary will be at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the church, where the family will receive friends immediately following the rosary.
