Donald R. "Don" Allen

Donald R. "Don" Allen, 68, formerly of Galesburg, passed away at 8:27 a.m., Friday, August 17, 2018 at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Waverly, Kansas.

He was born April 20, 1950 in Fort Scott, Kansas to Calvin Henry and Vivian Mercedes "Mert" (Simons) Allen. As a young boy, he moved to Parsons with his family where he grew up and attended school. He was a 1968 graduate of Parsons High School.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge he returned home to Parsons. He worked for many years at Ruskin Manufacturing as a sheet metal worker until retiring in 2012. In 2015, he moved to Burlington to be near his family.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and spending time with his family.

He and Dana Mae Coots were married April 25, 1972. They later divorced. On March 10, 1990, he and Betty Jo Clark were married in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on November 25, 2005.

One Son – Dustin Allen and his wife, Christy, of Burlington, KS

Two Stepsons – Earl Collyar, II and his wife, Miranda, Hutchinson, KS

John Gallison and his wife, Stephanie, of Wellington, CO

One Stepdaughter – Stacey Ferrell of Peabody, KS

Twelve Grandchildren

Two Brothers – Larry C. Allen and his wife, Marty, of Parsons, KS

John E. Allen of Parsons, KS

Sister-in-law – Reta Newberry of St. Paul, KS

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Galesburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. In memory of Don, it is the family's wish that Don's friends would take a young person fishing.

Memorials are suggested to either the Hand In Hand Hospice of Emporia or the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Waverly, Kansas. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
