Donald E. "Don" Born

Donald E. "Don" Born, 89, of St. Paul, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2013, at his home. He was born October 23, 1923, north of Parsons, Kansas, to Johnnie and Anna (Paulie) Born. He attended school in St. Paul and was a graduate of St. Francis High School. On November 3, 1943, he and Barbara R. Westhoff were married at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Greenbush, Kansas. He was a loving husband and father. He spent most of his life farming and raising cattle on the family farm 4 miles east and ½ mile south of St. Paul. Don was the third generation of Borns to own the home farm that has been in the family for over 100 years. He also ran a small fleet of lime trucks for over 30 years. Don was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He proudly served on the Unified School District No. 101 School Board and was involved with the consolidation of the district. He enjoyed playing sports, hunting, and the many family gatherings. He especially loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing in the yard. He and Barbara moved to St. Paul in the fall of 2000 after retirement. Survivors include his wife Barbara; three sons, Jim Born and wife, Terry (of the home farm) St. Paul, KS; Ted Born and wife, Carmella, of Olathe, KS; Tom Born and wife, Louisa, of Frontenac, KS; three daughters, Joan Davied and husband, Jim, of Girard, KS; Donna Gibson and husband, John, of Riverton, KS; and Kathie Grosdidier and husband, Steve, of St. Paul, KS; 25 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and two on the way; and one great-great- grandchild; three brothers, Junior (John) Born of Wichita, KS; Alban Born of Garden Plain, KS; and Bill Born of Littleton, CO; two sisters, Sister Veronice Born of Dodge City, KS; and Rosemary (Born) Duran of Erie, CO; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Doris Jean Born; his parents, Johnnie and Anna Born; two brothers, Harold and Paul Born; and one sister, Loraine Cox. The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 4, 2013, at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, at St. Francis Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall.
