Donald Wayne "Don" Heenan of Parsons, passed away on his 92 nd birthday at 12:25 a.m., Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Parsons Presbyterian Manor.
He was born May 26, 1926 in Wichita, Kansas. As a young boy, he moved to Coffeyville where he attended school until moving to Parsons in the 5 th grade. He was a 1943 graduate of Parsons High School.
During World War II, Don proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1943-1946. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Parsons.
On June 1, 1948, he and Ada Marie Kennedy were married at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. The couple would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on June 1 st .
Through the years, Don worked at Scaletty Heating and Cooling and later Crane Sheet Metal for 34 years. Don was a metal craftsman and his copper work can be found in numerous buildings throughout Southeast Kansas. He retired from Unified School District 503 in Parsons following six years of service.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parsons where he served as president of St. Mary's Booster Club and assisted in the construction of the new St. Mary's Church. He was a current member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Parsons. In his earlier years, he coached girls' softball. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and had a love for woodworking. His family was his passion. He was actively involved in his grandchildren's lives and especially enjoyed attending their sporting events.

Grandchildren –Tami Box and her husband, Danny, Staci Fraley and her husband, James, Danielle Jones and her husband, Bobby, Nikole Kelty and her husband, Kyle, Chad Newby, Jaime Horton and her husband, Josh, Kori Grandy and her husband, Will, Wes Heenan, Bryson Heenan, Nicole Elrod and her husband, Phillip, Brian Neelley, Philip Neelley and his wife, Amanda, Brandon Trout and his wife, Rachel, and Sarah Trout and her husband, Billy Perez
Great-Grandchildren – Nolyn, Dylan, Liam, Lucas, Jake, Chris, Reece, Ryleigh, Hadley, Emery, Allie, Hunter, Kynzi, Kynlee, Garrett, Braden, Charlie, Max, Olivia, Justin, Korey, Quinten, Tanner, Jenah Jean, Jaxson, Kamryn, Luke, and Olivia
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel Florence (Wickham) Heenan and Thomas E. "Tom" Heenan.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parsons with military honors given by Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends immediately following the rosary at the funeral home.
