Donald F. "Don" Weaver, 71, of Parsons, passed away at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Parsons Presbyterian Manor.
He was born August 17, 1945 in Hannon, Missouri to Marvin and Romaine (Richardson) Weaver. At the age of four, he moved with his family to Liberal, Missouri where he attended school and graduated from Liberal High School.
Following high school, he worked at a grain elevator until being drafted in 1968 into the United States Army. He served for two years in Korea as a communications operator during the U.S. response to the 'Pueblo Crisis' and another two years in the Army Reserve. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to Liberal where he worked in construction for a time before beginning a job at Clemens Coal Company, where he worked for 25 years before retiring. In 1990 he moved to Nevada, Missouri where he lived until moving to Parsons five years ago to be near family.
He was a member of the United Mine Workers, Local 14. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, helping his elderly neighbors, fishing, and traveling.
He and Elizabeth Bevins were married August 5, 1971 in Liberal, Missouri. They later divorced.
Survivors include one daughter, Lori Shaw and her husband, Joshua, of Parsons, KS; two grandchildren, Zack and Brogan; one brother, Merle Weaver and his wife Nicki, of Tonganoxie, KS; and one sister, Wanda Riordan and her husband Bob, of Belton, MO.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
