Donald F. "Don" Grassl, 61, of Altamont, died at 8:45 a.m., Friday, October 13, 2006 at his home. He had been in failing health.

He was born December 12, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph Benjamin and Lucy Elizabeth (Jehlen) Grassl. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Arizona where he grew up and attended school.

On February 11, 1966, he married Esther L. McCardie in Phoenix, Arizona. She survives of the home. They moved to Kansas in 1971 where they lived in Independence until moving to Altamont in 1983 where they have made their home.

He pastored Bible Holiness churches in Ramona, Oklahoma, Altoona, Kansas and Altamont. He also owned and operated a painting and drywall business for several years. Don had served as fire chief and policeman for the City of Altamont as well as chaplain and dispatcher for the Labette County sheriff's department. For the past ten years, he was a life and health insurance agent.

He was a member at the Bible Holiness Church in Cherryvale, Kansas. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

One Grandson – Matthew Potchen
One Sister – Nancy Kibler and her husband, Henry Casa Grande, AZ

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant twin brother.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Altamont. Burial will be in the Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 16, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Altamont.

Memorials are suggested to the Bible Holiness Church in Cherryvale or the Bible Holiness Church in Phoenix, Arizona.
