Donald R. "Hap" Santee, 82, of Parsons, died at 2:40 a.m., Sunday, June 26, 2011, in the Emergency Room at Labette Health. He had been in his usual health and death was not expected.
He was born April 25, 1929, in Mound Valley, Kansas to Harry and Mabel (Scobey) Santee. He grew up and attended school in Mound Valley and was a 1948 graduate of Mound Valley High School. He then attended Coffeyville Community College.
On June 21, 1950, he and Thelma J. Robison were married in Oswego, Kansas. Following marriage, they lived in Mound Valley until moving to Parsons in 1956 where they had lived since.
Through the years he worked at Continental Can Company, Reliance Garment Factory in Cherryvale and Broderick's Manufacturing in Parsons until retiring in 1990.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling in recent years. He had taken several cruises and, even at his age, tried many new experiences that included tree-to-tree zip lines, a mile-long zip line in Alaska, flew in a small plane that landed at the Artic Circle and encountered Mt. McKinley by flight. He also rode in a helicopter that landed on a glacier; rode in a submarine, bungee jumped and parasailed.
