Donald L. "Don" Humphrey, 80, of Chetopa, passed away at 6:04 a.m., Monday, August 21, 2017 at his home.
He was born December 31, 1936 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to John M. and Rose E. (Molder) Humphrey. He grew up and attended school in Jay, and later Tahlequah, Oklahoma, where he graduated from high school. After high school, Don served in the United States Army ten years. On September 7, 1972, he and Venita L. Harmon were married in Girard, Kansas. Following marriage, they moved to Chetopa where they have lived since.
Don worked as a track foreman for the Frisco Railroad which later became the Burlington-Northern Railroad for 26 years until retiring. Don loved fishing, hunting, camping, cutting wood, and being outdoors.
Survivors include: His loving wife of 44 years, Venita of the home; One Daughter – Crystal Taylor and her husband, Shane of Baxter Springs, KS;Two Stepsons – Jerry Midgett and his wife, Pam of Chetopa, KS, Gary Midyett and his wife, Donna of Sullivan, MO; Three Stepdaughters – Glenda Bridgeman and her husband, Lester of Cuba, MO, Patricia Pranker of Parsons, KS, Susie Harms and her husband, Kevin of Shell City, MO; Sixteen Grandchildren; Thirty-Nine Great-Grandchildren; Two Great-Great-Granddaughters. He was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, a son-in-law, John Pranker; and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 24, 2017 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa with military honors given by the Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Parsons.
