Donald G. "Don" Mourning, 85, of Altamont, passed away at 4:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Parsons Presbyterian Manor.
Donald Gene Mourning was born on May 3, 1937, to John Baker and Elsie Irene (Buckley) Mourning in Parsons, Kansas. As a young boy, he grew up and attended school in the Parsons area. In 1955, he graduated from Labette County Community High School.
Following high school, he served his country in the United States Army and continued his mechanic and machine shop training. For 53 years, Don was a mechanic at Thomas Implement, retiring just two months ago.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oswego. Traveling and square dancing were two of his favorite activities that he shared with his wife, Jeanie.
On January 30, 1972, Don and Jean Marie Robinson were united in marriage at the Westside Christian Church in Parsons. She preceded him in death on March 17, 2008.
Survivors include:
One brother – Glen Mourning and his wife, Joyce, of Viola, Kansas
One sister – Daisy White and her husband, Gene, of Coffeyville, Kansas
One brother-in-law – Gary Robinson and his wife, Nancy, of Independence, Missouri
Four nieces and four nephews
Close, special friend – Barbara Goodnight
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 6, 2022, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
