Donald Rex "Pop" Denney, 68, of rural Chetopa, died 3:23 p.m., Thursday, April 5, 2012 at his home. He had been in failing health

He was born, October 26, 1943 at Parsons, Kansas to Donald Roscoe Denney and Maybelle Grace (Stuart) Denney. He grew up in Parsons and attended the Washington Grade School here. He then attended the Labette County Community High School in Altamont where he graduated in 1961. Following high school, he entered the United States Navy where he served on active duty until 1963. He continued in the Navy Reserves until 1967. Following his time in the service, he returned to Parsons and worked for 35 years at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center as a Licensed Mental Health Technician. Following his retirement from the State Hospital, he worked at the Labette County Medical Center for six years. He had continued working up until he passed away for his son in his concrete construction business, Denney Crete.

He had been a member of the former Friendship Southern Baptist Church in Parsons and had also served on the Kansas State Board of Nursing in the past. He enjoyed camping and spending time with his family.

He was married to Pearl Williams on October 27, 1963 at Parsons. She survives of the home.

David Denney and his wife, Sue Ann of Chetopa, Kansas
Two Grandsons
His Mother: Maybelle Denney of Parsons, Kansas
Two Sisters: Sally O'Banion of Parsons
Donna Curran and her husband, Mike of Baldwin City, Kansas
He was preceded in death by one brother, Daniel Roscoe Denney and one sister, Candace Jones as well as his father, Donald Roscoe Denney and his brother-in-law, Frank M. "Sonny" O'Banion who passed away on March 22, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at Parsons. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Monday at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Southern Care Hospice. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
