Donald E. Raymond

Donald E. Raymond, 85, of Park City, Kansas passed away Friday morning, January 8, 2021 at his home.  He had been in his usual health and his death was unexpected.

Donald was born on April 4, 1935 in Altamont, Kansas to H. Alfred and Margie (Warbinton) Raymond.  He grew up and attended schools in Altamont, graduating from Labette County Community High School in 1953.  Following his high school graduation, Don joined the United States Air Force and served for 20 years.  He earned the Bronze Star for service during the Vietnam War.  Donald served in the Air Force from 1954 to 1974, he moved his family to  Wichita in 1971 where he was stationed at WSU in the R.O.T.C. program retiring in 1974. Later, Mr. Raymond worked at V.A. Hospital in Wichita.  Until retiring from there in 1995.

Don enjoyed woodworking and made furniture for his family. He learned to knit and knitted caps for newborns at area hospitals. He enjoyed going to auctions and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Donald and his wife Barbara enjoyed traveling and made it to all 49 states Canada and Mexico by car. Traveling only to Hawaii by plane.

He was a member of the Wichita Lions Club and served as District Governor from 1982 to 1983.  He also belonged to the American Legion in Wichita.   In earlier years he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altamont.

On February 2, 1957, he and Barbara J. Steele were married in Kansas City Kansas.  She survives at home.

Three Daughters – Pamela Ann Raymond of Arkansas City, Kansas

Penny M. Sloan of Lenexa, Kansas

Lorine Wilkins of Winfield, Kansas

Ten Grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Raymond, and his sister Imogene Rankins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.  Burial will follow in Mound Valley Cemetery.   Friends may call at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday. The funeral service can be viewed live on the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home Facebook page.   For all events, social distancing guidelines will be followed, including the requirement of face masks.

Memorials are suggested to the USD 506 Foundation for scholarships.  These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, Kansas 67356.
