Dora J. Meeks

Dora Jane Meeks, 98, of Parsons, formerly of Altamont, passed away Saturday evening, November 23, 2024, at Elmhaven East Nursing Home in Parsons.

Dora Jane Meeks was born on April 30, 1926, to Curtis and Dorothy Faye (McClaflin) Meeks in Byron, Oklahoma.

In her younger years, Dora enjoyed playing with her siblings. One of her favorite past times was playing croquet with them. She graduated high school and joined the workforce.  She worked as a cook in her adult life. Dora did this work in Altamont, Oswego and other neighboring communities. She would work where she could be the most helpful in the kitchen. When she wasn't working, she enjoyed time with her family or others, especially during the holidays. She enjoyed the outdoors, her dogs, embroidery work, and she was an avid Rook player.

Dora was a member of the Mound Valley Christian Church.

Ione Spencer of Parsons, Kansas

Numerous nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Lealon, Russell, Gilbert, Eugene and Chancey Meeks; one sister, Mildred Meeks; and a special lifetime friend, Elmer "Weasel" Pollock.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Mound Valley Christian Church.  Burial will follow at Byron-Amorita Cemetery, Byron, Oklahoma.  The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the service begins at the church.
