Dora L. Thompson, 94, of Mound Valley, passed away at 1:40 p.m., Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Oswego Health and Rehab.

Dora Lee Greenwood was born on January 7, 1932, to James and Ida May (Schroder) Greenwood in Parsons, Kansas.

On November 14, 1953, Dora and Albert J. “AB” Thompson were united in marriage at the Otterbein United Brethren Church in rural Parsons. The couple farmed in rural Mound Valley for many years. Over the years, she had also worked at the Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons and was a cook at the nursing home in Altamont.

Dora was a charter member of the Independent Baptist Church. She later became an active member of the First Baptist Church of Altamont. A devoted and committed follower of Jesus, she lived her life in a way that led her family to Jesus. Her love for the Lord was obvious and her main goal in life was to get her family to heaven.

Survivors include:

One son – Kenton Thompson (Dawn) of Altamont, Kansas

One daughter – Karen Phillips (Calvin) of Parsons, Kansas

10 grandchildren – Charity Frey (Peter); Caleb Phillips (Janet); Holly Miksch (Andrew); Melody Kabrey (Kevin); Trey Thompson (Sara); Tyler Thompson (Tara); Tucker Thompson (Maci); Arthur Thompson; Linsey Ackerman (Zack); and Jonathon Thompson

19 Great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, AB Thompson, on March 14, 2014; one son, Albert “AJ” Thompson; one grandson, two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Frances Lind, Bernice Umbarger, Cleo Carson, and infant Mary Greenwood; two brothers, Charles Greenwood and James Greenwood.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the First Baptist Church of Altamont. Burial will follow at Mound Valley Cemetery in Mound Valley. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the First Baptist Church of Altamont.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Altamont. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
