Doris F. Blevins, 99, of Edna, a cherished member of her community and devoted family woman, passed away on April 18, 2026, at Labette Health, Parsons, KS.
Doris Faye Horton was born on January 2, 1927, in Sterling, Kansas, to Fred and Opal (Shaffer) Horton.
Doris grew up in Sterling until the age of 16, after which she moved to Edna, Kansas. She graduated from Labette County High School and pursued some college coursework at Pittsburg State University. Early in her career, she taught school for three years after earning a Normal Training Degree in high school, demonstrating her commitment to education and growth.
Her personal life was marked by her marriage to Robert Heath Blevins on September 2, 1947, in Independence, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 7, 1975. Their union remains a significant chapter in her life story.
Doris and Robert enjoyed square dancing and were charter members of the Angola Swing and Twirl Club.
Doris contributed significantly to her family’s dairy operation where they milked 100 head of cattle for twenty-three years, offering her support and hard work. Her management of Golden Homes spanned twenty-nine years, during which she also served on the board from its inception in 1974, reflecting her leadership and steadfast commitment to her community.
An active and adventurous spirit, Doris was deeply involved in numerous organizations. She was a longtime member of Angola United Methodist Church where she played the piano before its closure and also played piano at the Valeda United Methodist Church. She dedicated over seventy years to the Rebekah Lodge. Her leadership extended to roles such as Past Grand Matriarch and Past Grand Scribe of the Grand Ladies Encampment Auxiliary of Kansas, as well as Past President of the Department Association Ladies Auxiliary Patriarchs Militant of Kansas. Additionally, she proudly served as a 4-H Leader for more than twenty years, guiding and inspiring young people in her community. She was also past president of the LCHS Alumni Association.
Doris became a bus driver for Edna Grade School and drove for 29 years, having a party each year for her bus kids. Doris was an Avon Representative for 44 years.
Those who knew Doris remember her as loving toward her family and friends, with a warm heart and a vibrant, active presence in community affairs. She lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love.
Doris is survived by:
One son, Ted Blevins, and his wife, Kathy, of Edna, Kansas;
Two daughters: Cula Murphy and husband Dary of Wichita, Kansas;
Kathy Kraft and husband Jim of Gridley, Kansas
Daughter-in-law Floretta Blevins, wife of Bill, of Garden City, Kansas
Daughter-in-law Marion Steitz Blevins-Fuller, wife of Ben, of Tulsa, Oklahoma
Niece Betty Neville of Coffeyville, Kansas
8 grandchildren, Andy Blevins and partner Leticia, Linda Davis and husband Jay, Aaron Blevins, Heath Cochran and wife Ashley, Miranda Moreland and husband Nic, Marissa Blevins and partner Jeremy, Jeremy Kraft and wife Marla, Jamie Kraft.
23 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great-grandchildren who continue to carry forward her legacy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and sons, Bill Blevins and Ben Blevins and his wife Lynda, also a great-great granddaughter Jacey.
Funeral services to honor Doris F. Blevins will be held on April 22, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, 405 Main St, Parsons, Kansas. Visitation will take place the evening before, April 21, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Burial will follow on April 22, 2026, at Edna Elm Grove Cemetery, located on South Elm Street in Edna, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to 506 Foundation for the construction of the Grizzly Museum. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
